im planning to copy some articles from other websites (copy n paste, word for word). will doing this not make me rank well in google? or is it ok

If your domain has more authority that the domains you're stealing articles from then you will rank higher.
If you're stealing from authority sites and publishing on a brand new domain, don't expect any traffic at all.

what if youre copying an article that has only been used by one or two websites? (according to copyscape)

Like the person above you said whoever has more authority will rank the article. Backlink the hell out of it and you can outrank the original.

okay. now does this apply to YouTube descriptions as well? or is it okay to copy those?

Of course, it affects the SERP. You can get penalized for keeping duplicate content in your website.

You are going to get yourself totally banned from Google. Duplicate content is a big no. You are just wasting your time and money if you are try to rank your duplicate content.
