If you haven't then you should register with MajesticSEO. If you don't use their paid services you can't see them all but the ones you do find may shed some insight. There are other free backlink checkers on the web. Another interesting thing to try is to plug your domain into the "Wayback Machine" and see what kind of content was on the site before you picked it up. You might be able to shape your content and capitalize off of the previous content you find.
