If I purchase a domain from godaddy does that automatically start aging for Google or do you have to run a live site from it and index it?

Domain aging starts from the day it was registered.

Yes, but to no good.
Google won't index a name, so it is meaningless and Google could care less when you register the site.
Without content it isn't an "aged site" it is a registered domain name.
Unless you're planning to scam some newbs in 5yrs, what is purpose?

edit: in fact I guess we should say site aging, not sure what domain aging is.

Agree with both Patriot and SafeBoost. What matters is the age of your site, as in, the age of the content and how long it has been indexed. Registration date, as a SEO factor, is completely irrelevant.

If you look it up in the domain registry, you can see when the website was registered. So does the website not start aging the moment it's registered?
