Does disconnecting your cable modem get you a new ip?

Disconnecting in most cases will not change your IP Address, however changing your MAC address will usually cause your ISP to change the IP Address. Some Routers/Firewalls allow you to modify your MAC Address and if attach your modem direct to your PC then there is some software that supposedly can change your MAC Address on your NIC. Affiliate networks and such will not ban you for changing your IP Address unless your intention is to commit some click fraud and you get caught.

For some cable modems if you change the MAC address on your network card (look it up in device manager or you could use Technitium MAC Address Changer) & reboot the cable modem it will give you a new address. I think some ISPs might be limited to 4 MAC changes within a few hours so be careful or you will get locked out for a bit. Keep a record of your old mac addresses because sometimes you might need to change it back to get online again.. if you can't get back straight away leaving your modem off for 4-5 hours then trying again will usually work.
well.. as far as ur network is DIALUP one... everytime you disconnect ur cable it will be change ur IP address.
but to make it sore, i used to use a command prompt and insert command :
after input it and get the ip, i check my IP on this http://checkmyip.org.

When I need a new IP I need to open command prompt and
then do the ol' ipconfig/renew
Afterwhich open network connections. Right click on my
'local area connection' and hit properties...
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then hit properties...
Select 'Use the following address'
Enter IP Address : 192.168.11.100 hit tab to make
my default gateway: 255.255.255.0
Hit 'OK'
Hit Close
Which will set my IP at 192.168.11.100
Then I Do it again except I change my IP automatically....
Select:
Obtain an IP Address Automatically..
Select:
OK
Select:
Close

hm.. I have DSL with 512kb/s here in Germany.
I have a reconnector, it's a .bat
Everytime I run it, I see a new IP on www.ip-adress.com
So what's the different between my and your DSL-Router / ISP

albaniax: whole germany dsl has a 24 hour disconnect policy. so you receive a new ip per connect and forced every day.
That's different from country to country
The question of the TS can easily be answered himself by testing his IP before and after disconnecting his modem, actually that's the only way to go sure
