For me they only worked once for my movie streaming site. Since it takes a long time for the process to take effect. Mostly people get impatient while waiting.
does disavowing backlinks help u rank?

that's because you never disavow links with authoirty 0-10 unless they are really category like porn, guns, ultra russian spam, only shady redirect chains, etc

Make sure that the ratio of quality backlinks is way more than that of spammy backlinks. Moreover, if they are not too many and no-follow, then you may leave them as they are.
But as you said that your website gets derank from position 10 to 35, then I will suggest you to do audit of your website and some of other competitor websites. It will be helpful in analysing the do or don't.

Maybe it's because of different factors like google updates, have you also check your site traffic performance lately

What do you think is the threshold above which you should be concerned?
Let's say my site has backlinks on 1000 different sites. 200 of which are spammy and without any added value. Should I take action?
