I’ve heard mixed advice about deleting posts that flop. Has anyone tested whether it improves or hurts overall performance?

Deleting poorly performing posts usually doesn't cause much harm, but repeated deletions can send a negative signal to the algorithm. It's safer to keep the good content, archive the bad ones, and optimize future posts.
 
Deleting poorly performing posts occasionally is not a big problem, but deleting them repeatedly can send a negative signal to the algorithm. Archiving is usually safer and more effective.
 
I haven't tried it, but I think deleting underperforming posts isn't usually very harmful, but repeatedly deleting them isn't good. Instead, optimize future posts.

Don't delete it, instead archive it. It has the same effect as they disappear from your account feed but Instagram doesn't like that much to delete content, so if you archive it, it remains on your account, but not on the feed.

No, not really. Deleting then reposting the same content can affect the reach on the reposted content. I use common sense when doing that sort of stuff, what seams spammy or reach chasing usually has a negative effect on post placements.
 
Exactly this. Discovery is no longer “post and pray.” Platforms are clearly weighting account-level trust signals more than individual posts now

Tests shared so far don’t show consistent gains from deleting flopped posts and in some cases it may reset engagement signals, so the focus tends to be on posting better content going forward
 
Archive the posts. Deleting posts is fine aswell; however, archiving them is safer for the the account.
 
Deleting flopped posts doesn’t improve performance. Occasional deletes are fine, but frequent deleting or reposting can hurt account-level trust. You can archive underperforming posts and focus on better future content.

If it's a few and it doesn't happy every time, then it can't send a wrong signal.
 
Don't waste time deleting 'flop' posts, as this can sometimes damage your account's trust score and reset important engagement signals. If you don't want them visible, use the archive feature. Focus your efforts on optimizing new content instead of trying to fix what's past; the algorithm always prioritizes positive future engagement over cleaning up old posts.

just archive. i haven't seen much difference tho.
