does content length matter ?

Yoast suggests 300+
But really depends on the niche
Not going to read a 1000+ ramble post about some random news article like 'aviici died of malnourishment'
But if selling stuff to anorexic People, They would read the 1000+ post

Human signals are a lot more important than number of words.

Google is tracking your behavior 24x7 not just the static page any more.

It's all about machine learning.

If people reach your page and stay there 2 sconds and leave, it sends a bad signal. If they stay until a reasonable time to read the article and move to other pages, it's a positive signal.

Google then compares this to other sites in your niche. If people stick to your content 3 seconds more than competitors, you rank higher.

It's all about human tracking. Google is tracking everyone like mice, they know what people are doing online, that's how you rank in 2018.

The content length really depends on what you are trying to achieve though. If you are able to write a short content, but the content helps you retain the visitor, or increase the user engagements on your site, then you will score brownie points with the search engine, which is the idea behind of having content on your site.
Search engines know the amount of user engagement and interaction with your site, and these can also be measured by the bounce rate as well. Doing better would definitely tell them your site is good, and hence better ranking, etc for your site.

yes, length is required to be accurate according to the relevant topic and in how many words you are covering the the whole content is also an important perspective .. But if a content is relevant to the topic length is not a issue if you cover the whole topic in limited words.

Offcourse content length matters a lot. We all know "Content is the king and Conversion is the queen". Not only this the idea and plan of whole digital marketing surrounds the content. Content is the soul of online marketing. Whether you are doing SEO, email marketing or social media the one thing which you require is content. without a good quality content all your SEO, SMO and email marketing efforts will go in vain.

Good quality content will help you to attract more and more organic as well as potential traffic/ visitors. and good quality content will eventually convert the visitor into the customer. In my view content must be at least 1000 -1200+ words. because when you provide quality informational stuff to the viewer then only they'll come back to you.

socail signals are very important aswell.

Yes. depending on the depth of the subject. But Mostly readers like 400-500 words.

Not every subject requires a thousand word article. Mix your content length. Occasionally throw in a video.

So basically keep everything short and sweet unless it needs to be longer? I'm assuming it's a bit like video where short but info filled videos are better than long 30 Min Plus videos?

SEO is changing a lot nowadays. A few years ago, all that mattered was your keywords. But Google now wants you to create content for humans, not search engine crawlers. With that in mind, content length surely plays a crucial role. But it's not everything. If you have a 1000-word article with no real content in it, it's just a waste of a webpage and you may not see any benefits from it. On the other hand, a well-worded 500-word post could get you good traffic and increase your visibility.

SEO is not a linear street anymore. There are many things to consider. Just make sure your content is of high quality. You will see results eventually.

Hope it helps! :)

For a page I'm ranking I usually aim for 2000+ words (2-2.5k). It makes a big difference. But it needs to be high quality. Most of your competitors are going to be doing 700-1200 so you'll win the information value war if you go above.

It has to be extremely interesting article. I will never read a 2000 article if it is boring however informative it may be.

I think it depends on the type of content. News can be short, but it will bring more traffic that a long boring article.

Content length doesn't matter. Just cover every detail in your topic. If you can explain anything completely in 500 words. Then, You don't need to write 1800 words for it.

SEO wise yes the Content-length does matter, but Content marketing wise the richness of the content should matter more than length. The relevance is the key, not the length.

Simmer Down brethren— Having a longer content is not a must but you should understand that google want information about a subject — Getting a detailed info written makes a content lengthy in a long run .

Google would prefer someone with detailed engaging information on their blogs to someone just writing 1/10 of the required information.

I hope this makes sense @Op ?

In my opinion and my experience better to write more than 2k content per article to make ranking easier.

Word count and substance cannot be separated.

"Here's my keyword. Can you produce a 500-word article on this topic and keyword?"

When our client asks us that question, we research first if there's really much that can be talked about on that topic.

We don't just say, "Oh sure. Place your order now. We'll write a 500-word article for you."

Don't lengthen the article for the sake of hitting a 2,000-word article or so.

Lengthen the article because there's a lot of information worth sharing with your followers or readers.

I just found a weird thing on my site, well maybe not that weird because its an old thing for years:

If page is too short words (always 200-300), adxsense ads will show blanks very frequently. (its amazing thing that 200-300 words seem still not that "enough")
