I have a site sitting at number 3 for its respective keywords. If I change the page title will I get penalized by G or other wise damage my rankings? The reason for changing is I think I could get a better ctr with a different title.

Thanks

definitely no if you keep respective kws
also, don't forget that your site has good positions probably mainly because of backlinks

just make sure you keep your link / url structure the same and you should be just fine

If ever I'm changing just a page title I always change the text every so slightly. Changing the title on its own - without changing anything else onpage - can cause you to lose rankings so be careful!

Change some of the text, obviously try not to touch too much text that uses the keywords you are already ranking for. Maybe change a few not to important things as well such as the alt tag on an image or two, meta desciption (as it might need to be changed to reflect your new title), maybe a meta tag etc.

Changing the title could result easily on improving the site. I have made this experiment recently , the words i kept the same but i changed the sequence. It affected my placement as i've lost 1-2 places on 1st page in the word i moved 2nd and won 2 places in the word i brought in front.

Do not be afraid to change as long as it's for improvement. If you think the new title will give you better results then go on.
