Hey guys,

If I change my hosting provider will I get my rankings affected? (assuming that the only downtime is domain propagation between the accounts)

Nope,
Just make sure your links don't change

Definitely does.

Client recently moved to a better hosting and performance went up quite significantly.

Their keyword also went up average of 4 spots (2nd-3rd page, not 1st).

Yeah but the truth is, daily serp movements are normal these days, after May update. It can go back in a 2 days for example.

Logically, moving to faster hosting may improve rankings and moving to slower hosting may reduce them.

Ensure there is less or no downtime between migration to avoid ranking drops.

I'm talking about stable improvement of course. Not just bouncing. It's been like that for 6 weeks now.

Hosting speed is going to affect serps. If you have a faster load time due to hosting, you are likely to see an increase, if it is slower, you will likely see a decrease.

The actual changeover is not going to do a lot.

Yeah. Like domain name changes, the SEO performance can be negatively affected by switching to a new web host.

If your hosting is loading faster, then you will do better.

I not sure, but it does make a difference come speed,
as usual SKIP DON'T USE GoDaddy which others also agreed with that.

It depends

Is the new host faster? Some people say speed does not count that much, but consider one host at 3 seconds vs 10. That is high bounce rate

Then there is uptime

It does impact, it doesn't meter if is better, faster. Still, you will get temporary dancing.

Yes, for better or for worse.

Moving a large website to a top notch dedi server was one of the best SEO moves I've done for a client.

100% yes, it affect your ranking. But if you have solid SEO going on website it will up again within few weeks to the normal serp positions. actually that dropping is temporary. So do you SEO works as usual. Don't afraid.

Yes, it happened with me recently, I was ranking #2 position for a difficult keyword, after changing hosting from shared to vps, position decreased to 6th.

There is probably more to that story that actually made the difference.

Usually not, if you move fast and don't let it be offline too much. And even if you lose a couple spots, if your new hosting is stable and fast, you will get back on track in no time.

VPS I purchased doesn't have litespeed (server cache) option whereas shared hosting does have that option, so after transfer it resulted in increased loading time of the website. That may be the reason.

I think it does actually. I moved from one hosting to another and lost my rankings, it took 6 months to get the rankings back.
