I've seen somebody criticize my channel and said maybe be more original if you want your channel to grow. If I have an original idea on youtube am I more likely to grow?

It is important but not a necessity. You just just fulfill a gap in the market and perform your 100% while recording the youtube videos. Some luck is also there.

Being original is good but current, trending & engaging makes it best for both you and your viewer.
There are topics where maybe you can't be original, but you can be creative and offer something engaging maybe with a different perspective.

That's too hard to answer. Even if you are being original maybe your content doesn't appeal to viewers, what you consider good doesn't necessary mean that it's good for viewers too. You can also do niches that other people are doing but you can add your original twists to it

You will need to promote your channel anyway, without it, original content will take you nowhere.

Original will be unique which means you are already standing different from crowd. This will increase your chances for success.
