Does article marketing still work for you with CL products?

My first ventures into IM was pushing CL products through websites such as squidoo, and I saw tons of success

After about 6 months into that I made the dumbest mistake of my life, i quit my IM for a "real job" which stopped me from working on IM for about 1 1/2 years.

During that timeframe, I watched my work trickle from 100 dollars a day to 75, to 50, to 20, to 20 a month, to nothing.

Eventually, I decided to come back, but focused on a few other routs (tinkered with CPA, started working with adsense, etc) but eventually decided to go back to article marketing...but theres a problem

I picked up right where I left off, using the same tactics as before, and saw NO sales. I said okay, gotta change things up a bit, and applied MANY new things I had learned/become better at (MUCH better SEO, keyword selection, product selection, SERPS, backlinks, etc) and have dominated a few different fields with success ranking wise, but STILL, not a SINGLE sale.

Here are my results for the last 14 days:
150 hops
3 order form impressions
1 order form submission
ZERO dollars. no clue what that 1 order form submission was, no refund in place, just the submission with no profit

this is month 3 of me picking this stuff back up, im obviously getting some traffic and some hops, but I cant seem to get a DIME into my pocket.

Does anyone else do article marketing such as this? Is it even a viable way to do things or have those communities just gotten sick of it and dried up?

Hi
I don't earn bundles of money from article marketing but I do make regular sales and it's all I do as an affiliate.

I tend to use it though in tandem with a website and try and dominate a very small niche i.e a few decent articles on ezinearticles with backlinks to my webpage and it's a win double! My articles are generally on page one, and the SEO they give my webpage in a very targeted niche usually has them page 1 too.

That's my way but it does take a lot of research and I can waste time too.

Hope that helps.

The people who succeed with promoting offers through article directories and web 2.0 sites are taking advantage of the fact that it is much easier to rank these sites high in the search engine rankings. It is not enough now to simply write an article, submit it, and expect money. You need to do some keyword research and find targeted keywords with steady search volume and low to moderate SEO competition. Then write your article with a decent keyword density (1-3%) and then build some links to your article or web 2.0 property. Don't forget to include your keyword in your title and tags.

Someone didn't read the last bits of my post

I submit articles to Ezine to presell, the link then brings them to my review site. There is money to be made but there is a lot of work when it comes to article marketing.
