Does anything decrease reach?

there is a lot of speculation out there at the moment. as of early last week i am under the impression that Instagram has come down with the Hammer again. altering their algorithm, a lot of people have experienced a wave of Phone verification requests. I personally received it, but what i have noticed which is kind of crazy, my followers on one of my accounts has dropped almost 120 since Wednesday which is definitely not normal. additionally my likes/ comments have decreased dramatically.
there are a few theories that i am postulating atm.
1. follow/unfollow reduced your exposure
2. excessive use of functions if your botting, which is much higher then the average will incur a penalization.
3. repeatedly using the same hashtags will reduce exposure, forcing people to not over crowed 1 topic/ hashtag.
4. being part of a promoting group where you help each other by liking and tagging etc will reduce your exposure.
there are a few more elements which i am under the assumption they have implemented but not so much evidence on them yet. id say they are tightening up everything atm to reduce the amount of people using their platform to run CPA businesses, as this is their core generator of money they want to remove others form doing so.
Long in the short what does this mean, new techniques need to be devised. ;-)
Please keep in mind this is a theory, if anyone would like to chime in if they have any 100% concrete evidence that would be perfect

Using these Instagram bots to comment or follow for you goes against Instagram’s terms of service. So you have to be ready for getting your account suspended at any time.
IMO Give attention to creating excellent content and taking advantage of legitimate techniques to develop your Instagram audience, as well as the numbers should come.

Its always easy to say stick to doing everything manually as per instagram rules. Unfortunantly if you like me and your strapped for time this is not the reality. hence the bot.
im currently trying to setup an excell sheet that runs as a hashtag generator, so i will list all the hastags i want to use ie 200 hashtags i deem fit and make it generate 35 at random when i need it. this way it keeps your hashtags fresh and makes it easy for you. Try different hashtags to start with.
Letting your account sit with inactivity, id say wouldnt be a good thing but definetly calm down a bit for a few days.
i will be starting my bot back up tonight on new Proxies as the old ones would most likely be flagged now. but the bot will run at a very mild rate, so lower follow/unfollow rate etc.
Can i ask, when you have people comment on your pictures do you reply back or just like their comment ?
Depends on the comment. I do both.
My account is just my personal, currently non monetised one, i try to be interactive as much as possible, but obviously that varies day to day.
Mmmm, i guess try comment a bit. Id be under the assumption that Insta words on a reward system. you know, more genuine interaction increased certain aspects. do that for the next day or so, see if it helps.
I started doing that a bit more today.
I usually go through and do a bunch of manual likes on pics i actually like. But I guess that could be perceived as automated.

By promoting group, do you mean the engagement groups I see on here?

sorry yes i meant engagement groups, but i think its if they are hosted in Instagram that they will be flagged. I mean really whats the difference between running 30 accounts for instance and having 30 people in a group who like your pic. In theory its function is the same. Just give insta a week or so to settle down. as these issues are happening to a lot of people i assume something new is going on. I have just tried a new set of Hashtags tonight will see the new results and will test rolling new ones for the next few days.
My reach has been what I feel is low for a very long time. I get 8 to 15k reach with 140k followers.
But i am sitting at about 20% engagement from those i actually do reach.
I don't think i quite understand how you are using hash tags too. I thought it was just something for searching that was rarely used.
The tags i use are pretty generic.
Id say interms of Hierarchy of importance on Instagram. hashtags is probably right up there. hashtags enable people to find your post and list you in an index. but you really have to finesse your hashtags. depending on how many followers you have. for example accounts that dont have a very high follwer base should use roughly 20-25 hashtags that dont have a high overall use rate. this will inturn push them up to a feature page in the lower ranked hashtags, once that happens they are hopefully bumped up to a feature page in a higher rated hashtag giving even more exposure. its kind of the reverse for higher follower based accounts, where your split may be more in the higher used hashtag rage.
low number of follwers = use more low ranked hashtags coupled with a few high ranked hashtags
high number of followers = use more high ranked hashtags coupled with a few low ranked.
obviously you need to find your balance

Nice reply, but I would keep it more simple.
His account is flagged/limited/throttled/ghosted.
Sitting with 140K his reach should be way higher, the tags are non-relevant in this case and won't quadruple his reach.

To me crappy photos/videos will hinder your reach. We should all know that.
As to bots, every large brand, every major PR use bots of one type or another. So Instagram will not ban bots, they will ban those abusing the system with bots.
In regards to Engagement Groups, I've experienced what others in the past had mentioned here. That Instagram will throttle likes on some accounts. I've experienced this with accounts that I handle. After 2 hours of the round ending, I've seen likes coming in from members that were on the round. Now, before you say, well they were late in liking; no that's not the answer. 2 hours late, would get them a warning, or ban from the engagement group. It happens a lot, so it's not that they are late, it's Instagram throttling the like.
Maybe the account liking was hit with a penalty or review? Who knows.

That is way low... I have a 12k account and my reach is always around 7-8k. Impressions are 7-14k. Yes, my impressions are higher than my follower count.
Is there anything i can do about that?
I was thinking let the account sit for a while. See if it makes a difference.
I am also noticing that i am getting loads of fake accounts following me. I am not buying followers. But somedays i will get 150 to 200 fake followers.
Is it because so many are getting deleted now that there are constantly new ones being made? Or something else?
I don't understand the reach at all.
My top 3 in reach ranking, rank 25+ in likes.
My top likes are outside the top 5 in reach.
Same for engagement.
For some reason ig gives more reach to my less poplar pics / videos.
My highest reach is 33k on a video of me stripping on stage in las vegas. But 1.7k likes, 55 comments.
My highest liked is 3.6k photo of me poolside but only 14k reach with 65 comments.
My top 20 like ranking is all selfies, gym sessions, tattoo appointments.
My top 20 engagement is basically the top 20 like ranking in a different order.
I am quite confused as to which content to use.
How do you find out your reach/impressions if you do not have a business account?

Content is king. OG and HQ photos will always do better than poor quality and low resolution pictures.
Instagram is a $30+ billion company. They use sophisticated algorithms and machine learning technology to learn about their users. They know people bot but they dont want spammy mofos and people abusing their actions clogging up their systems.
If you're using bots, I recommend growing them to around 50K and then letting the account grow on its own with legit techniques. 50K followers can reap some $ if you know what to do.
