I'm possibly interested in getting an Android tablet. I would go and get the iPad, but we all know how Apple carefully scrutinizes it's users, in the sense that they pretty much limit what can and cannot be done.

I like the freedom of Android, so I would thus like to get an Android based tablet. I know HTC is releasing one apparently pretty soon, but I am wondering if anyone here owns an affordable one that is quick and just works well generally?

Perhaps some links if possible and opinions/experiences from using it?

    Thank you!

My friend owns an Samsung Galaxy Tab and he's disappointed with his Android. I must say that from my own experience using his tablet, I would be disappointed too. No one provides a better product or better customer service than Apple. The applications are immensely great too and can really improve your productivity.

Thanks for your reply. I am really trying to avoid Apple because their tab does not multitask, etc and obviously also due to all of the restrictions that are put in place (but perhaps I may need to settle for one of them).

Any other experiences. Why is your friend disappointed with the Android?

I haven't had a chance to use one but I just read an article that said you should wait about 6 months before buying one. There will be quite a few on the market then. I believe a windows version is coming out too.

iPad & Android are consumer oriented, not enterprise oriented. Why not go for a windows tablet running XP or 7?
(sorry if you've already thought about it and rejected that option as undesirable)

Yeah I love those cheap iphones that apple makes with their wall garden. I also love apples policy about fucking anything open source and refusing to allow people to write software for it that they don't like. I also love that apple can disable any application they want at any time, and the great wall garden.

Apple is a pile of shit, just like the great old crapintosh. The great imac that is specifically designed so that you can't work on it yourself. What kind of dumbass would buy a computer that requires suction cups to work on and about 2000 dollars of other tools to work on as well? You know what I need to work on my computer? A Phillips head screwdriver.

There's a reason that apple has got shit on for the past 20 years on the os marketshare, and that's because only a small percentage of the population are stupid enough to buy them, and out of those people, at least 50% loads a windows os on it anyways.

There's one thing I do with apple products, and that's wipe my ass

Each to their own, chap. No need to get angry and be asocial.

Well, he was disappointed with the user interface (which I think plays a big part in a tablet). He thought that it wasn't very reliable/stable and he (rightly so) thought that it couldn't compete with the iPhone in terms of applications. I'd read an article or two about the disadvantages and advantages of the tablets and whatnot so that you can make an informed judgement.

I've been planning to buy an Android tablet, but decided to wait a few months until tablets start shipping with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) before I decide what to get. I played with the Samsung Galaxy Tab at CES and I thought it was a decent product, but it was running Android 2.2 which isn't optimized for larger screen devices. The new Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Honeycomb looks like it will be an Android alternative to the iPad. I'm leaning more towards a 7" tablet.

I personally think no other tablet compares with the iPad and I have never had any problems with mine.

Hmm.. I was thinking - For what do I need one an tablet?

In school for writing, etc.? I can also use my notebook for that.

For BlackHat stuff or tools? Only if there's an XP tablet

Only advantage I see is, that it is VERY small, so it can be taken with one where ever you go, or for quick business presentations, if you do local businesses.

Albaniax, I am trying to do local business so it may help in that regard. But I also like to browse the net while in bed at night, reading up on a few articles/topics usually on my iPhone / HTC, so it would mainly be used for that. I have seen the windows 7 based tablets and they seem cool, but Win7 is obviously much chunkier of an OS than Android, for example. It requires a lot more RAM and probably CPU power (although obviously you can install / do whatever you like on it). But for that, I have laptops.

So really, it's just to install some fun apps, browse the net and from time to time, use it to show a client something (if everything works well for me and I even get any clients). I don't particularly like all of the limitations on the Apple products though. I mean, if I download a movie on my PC, I just want to be able to drag and drop it over to the Android tablet and watch it in bed etc, rather than needing to sync via iTunes and other time consuming things. Stuff like that I believe is the only thing stopping me from just buying an iPad.

Not to give a kaka suggestion, but is there a reason you don't want a netbook?

The price range is low. It has a keyboard. They can be pretty slim (though are bulkier than tablets). High battery life. Choice of Windows + Linux. Productivity is easier on a netbook than any touchscreen device.

You could also convert the netbook into a touchscreen device or tablet (there are many guides to do this too. You end up with a very powerful tablet since netbooks can be pretty nice hardware-wise. It would be a lot of work though unless you find one pre-modded.
