Does anyone know anything about this permalink format?

It's like website.com/index.php/page-name/

What the heck is /index.php/ doing in the middle of the link? Is this some type of an outdated permalink format or what?

Please share your wisdom if anyone is familiar with this shit and for what possible purpose someone would use it? Thanks.

A permalink typically consists of two parts: one is the domain name and the other appears after the domain and is known as the slug.
For example, in www.yourblog.com/your-first-blog-post, the slug would be the part that comes after the forward slash.

never seen it before. That's weird indeed...

Maybe it's a script that automatically appends slugs like that at the end of URLs to make them.... er.... I don't know lol. But I've definitely not seen that before, and now I'm curious what's going on, as well

I usually put https://mysite.com/article-title, I find it much better than all other formats.

if it's within a pbn, it could be used for diversity,
otherwise, it's mostly caused by wrong website main url declaration or htaccess/redirection problem within the main root folder,
it could be the default for other cms as well,
when it comes to seo, it has no effect to ranking,
it can only cause issues with ux and lower ctr due to permalink, nothing serious tho
