After a few months development, our first WordPress plugin, WPvivid Backup/Restore, is released. It is a free backup plugin and available to download from WordPress plugin directory now (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpvivid-backuprestore/).

Currently, we have to face a reality that a few weeks passed and the active installations don’t meet our expectation. So how to let more people know about our plugin is the priority task for us.

If anyone give us any tips and advices on the best way to promote new WordPress plugin, it would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Googling your plugin name, it looks like you have a lot of forum posts asking for feedback, but little in the way of press coverage or editorial links. Have you reached out to sites/authors who have popular articles like "the best backup plugins for Wordpress" or "how and why to backup your Wordpress blog?" The good ones get updated frequently so maybe they'll test/review/include your plugin. They might also want you to pay them, or get more active installs, etc.

It's probably going to be tough. There are already a lot of backup plugins, and at least one of them is really good. One thing you could do for free is look around the Wordpress site and webmaster forums for negative reviews of other plugins (i.e. find people unhappy with their current backup plugin). Help those people and let them know your plugin is better.

Good luck!

The demand for a backup plugin is not that much, this is the most important factor, market share.

And let alone there are some very popular backup plugins already there...

anyway here's some tips:

1) free giveaway PRO version on BHW and exchange for reviews
2) join Appsumo
3) join themeforest

IMHO, I will not spend too much time on such a plugin, better move on some other plugins or things.

Thanks for your kind advice. Yes, I posted many forums for asking for feedback. It got some positive reviews, but only a few people are interested in it. We know there are some websites related with WordPress accepting paid review, we didn’t contact them yet because of a tight budget. Indeed, it is really a good way to exposure our plugin to WordPress users.

We know there are at least ten popular backup plugins for WordPress out there and it is really a challenge to us to stand out from these respectable rivals. So we keep refining the plugin with adding something new and unique. However, for a small team with the limited budge, how to promote a new plugin is more difficult than creating itself.

Thanks again, bro.

What you said makes sense. There are some popular backup plugins existing on backup market.

Anyway, I will try your tips for promoting plugin. Thanks.
