Funny you should say that, i invited all my friends to one of my pages and got 5000 fans, then it died. So i decided to trade 20,000 invites, and it grew by 480! So yes you do have to really watch out and check about!

I think one of the best ways is to watch them do it over teamviewer..

This way you can see if they actually do invite all their friends.
