I don't pay for views or likes. I think what you are referring to as NOT being legit IS legit. There may be a few people who gain all natural traffic and don't boost it, but it had to start somewhere - otherwise they wouldn't be on this website.
Mmm.... Well... I guess I am, although I am only generating around 5-10 USD a day at the moment. I am on BHW to learn new methods to capitalize on my modest traffic, (16-20K UV per month), but preferably by finding methods which are pretty much white hat and in line with with my blog.
Yes many people do make money. This month alone will be over $15k for videos on YouTube. I built up fan pages on various social networks and capitalized on GreyHat methods and BlackHat methods here to get started. The hardest part now about YouTube is getting longer views when you know you're just starting out and you don't have a clue what to do. Now I just rank videos with highest view retention possible if it needs a boost.

There's no real legit way to make money, when someone says HEY! I make money using blackhat methods, all that means is "I manipulate the system to bring good results for the merchant" its a big difference between BH methods and Fraud.

I don't think BH methods like content locking or any other way to generate cheap leads make any good to merchants...
I'd want someone to actively promote my product based on a per sale basis and skip out all the idiots trying to just simply bring a lead in. 70%+ of all leads are FAKE and 1% of the 30% left generate sales. You can see a big loss of cash there so you move on to sales. You pay a decent net 7, make sure that your product isn't going to bring people to a charge back, and finally you deliver the goods and both the affiliate and you are happy. As for YouTube I think I would fantasize about affiliates promoting some games or some service of mine in front of real viewers (I am not talking about paying per view basis) so sales are generated.
Then again, I'm not looking for the lint change that most people hunger for (revealed by posts on here), but rather the big fatty pots of solid gold and diamonds people tend to think are to hard or over saturated like actually providing a product or service people want.
