I'm just curious, how many out there actually have a business in selling domains? I am not talking about hosting here either. I'm very interested in this.

Some people do but they spend a lot of time on it, and most of them don't do just names. Domain names are loss leaders for a lot of companies. Offering other services in an integrated way is where they make a lot of profit. And I noticed you mentioned you weren't talking about hosting - but look at the payouts for hosting affiliate programs. The reason they're so high is that selling or reselling hosting is a very high profit margin business.

Selling only domains is a waste of time, with luck you will earn 2-3$ / domain and you will have to work all the week answering your clients questions (hello my domain is not working [...] ).

As said gregstereo, try selling hosting, you will earn more money with the sales.

Domain reselling is not an easy task if done alone. All the famous domain registrars also sell webhosting and other extras.. like Namecheap, Godaddy etc. You should try the same.

If you have a local website design/seo service then it makes sense because you earn a few extra dollars a month. But really it's a pain to deal with customers especially when their website goes down. Make sure you have a solid contract for support issues or they will take advantage of you.

I love the responses in this thread. They remind me of a movie by Alicia Silverstone. Your question is how many of us do domains. Well, I can't answer that. But I can give you a helpful statistic: I do domains. So that's one. Did someone really say earn 2 to 3 bucks a domain? Seriously?
