Does anyone actually read the "last updated" date on a post before trusting it?

honestly i rarely check it unless i'm looking for something specific. i care more about whether the information actually seems current

Random thoughts i had.... we always talk abt adding "last updated" dates to post for SEO/Trust signals but do You personally as a reader actually chck that date before deciding if info is credible
or is it most just a signal for google and users don't really care that much in practice.
I personally as a reader do check it. It is actually a necesitty in some niches.

It becomes very obvious when there was a change in topics that happens vry quickly such as SEO or software. Having an up to date is helpful, but really I takes the information much more seriously.

I definitely notice it when the topic is something that changes often

If I’m reading something about SEO, software, prices, laws, travel rules, or anything similar, an old date makes me question the information pretty quickly

For evergreen topics I barely care about the date at all. I’m more interested in who wrote it and whether the actual information looks reliable

I also think there’s a difference between changing the date and actually updating the article. If I see “updated 2026” but half the examples or statistics are clearly from years ago, that hurts trust more than having no date

So I’d use the date for the reader first, not as some magic Google signal. The update itself matters much more than changing the timestamp

The date catches my eye most when I am looking for some tym sensitive information. If the date was written as updated yesterday but the information is out of date then that date is meaningless to me.
