Does anyone actually read the "last updated" date on a post before trusting it?

Random thoughts i had.... we always talk abt adding "last updated" dates to post for SEO/Trust signals but do You personally as a reader actually chck that date before deciding if info is credible
or is it most just a signal for google and users don't really care that much in practice.

to be honest, it is seldom that i look at the date unless the subject keeps changing. in any case the date surely is an indicator of trustworthiness but it might not necessarilly be the key one.

I do check the “last updated” date, but I don’t rely on it alone. I also look at the content and recent replies to judge whether the info is still relevant.

Honestly, I check it more than I realize. If an SEO post hasn’t been updated in years, I usually take the advice with a grain of salt.

I do notice the “last updated” date when the topic is time sensitive like SEO finance or software Its not enough on its own but a recent date combined with accurate useful content definitely adds trust.

The date means more when the update is visible. “Updated August 2026” beside old prices and screenshots can look worse than having no date at all. A short note like “pricing and screenshots refreshed” tells the reader what actually changed. For evergreen pages, changing the date alone doesn’t add much.

I usually notice the date when the topic is something that changes often. For general information, I probably would not pay much attention to it.

Yes I think so, many users do check the updated date, especially for topics where information changes often. It gives them more confidence that the content is still relevant.

I usually check the date if the topic changes fast, especially AI, SEO, social media or software. For evergreen topics I don't really care as long as the information still looks accurate.

I think it matters, but it depends on the topic. For time sensitive topics like SEO, finance, health, or tech, I’ll definitely check the date because outdated information can be misleading.

most savvy users know how easily that date is faked anyway. there are so many WP plugins that just auto-update the modified date to the current month to trick google. looking at the comment section dates is usually a better giveaway... if the post says updated yesterday but the comments are all from 2019, the trust is gone instantly.

this I do see, but mostly with material that moves at a vrry rapid pace. tbh, having an updated date mean nothing if the information is no longer current.

honestly, i notice the date more when the topic changes quickly, like seo or tech. but i usually care more about whether the content feels specific, current, and backed by real examples than the date alone.

I check it mainly for topics that change often It definitely helps with trust but the actual content quality and sources matter more to me than the date alone

But this is more evident in guides, reviews and any other type of inforation that changes frequently.
However, in case of evergreen informmation, the date really doesn't bother me at all; actually the content is much more important than the date itself.

The date alone wouldn’t make me trust an article. I’d look at whether the information is actually current and whether the update appears meaningful rather than just changing the date.

The date alone does not mean much if the content was not actually updated. I usually care more about whether the information is still useful and current than just seeing a recent date.

Yes.. i usually check it especially for topics that change over time. an old update date can make me question whether the information is still relevant....
