Does anyone actually read the "last updated" date on a post before trusting it?

Random thoughts i had.... we always talk abt adding "last updated" dates to post for SEO/Trust signals but do You personally as a reader actually chck that date before deciding if info is credible
or is it most just a signal for google and users don't really care that much in practice.

to be honest, it is seldom that i look at the date unless the subject keeps changing. in any case the date surely is an indicator of trustworthiness but it might not necessarilly be the key one.

I do check the “last updated” date, but I don’t rely on it alone. I also look at the content and recent replies to judge whether the info is still relevant.

Honestly, I check it more than I realize. If an SEO post hasn’t been updated in years, I usually take the advice with a grain of salt.

I do notice the “last updated” date when the topic is time sensitive like SEO finance or software Its not enough on its own but a recent date combined with accurate useful content definitely adds trust.

The date means more when the update is visible. “Updated August 2026” beside old prices and screenshots can look worse than having no date at all. A short note like “pricing and screenshots refreshed” tells the reader what actually changed. For evergreen pages, changing the date alone doesn’t add much.

I usually notice the date when the topic is something that changes often. For general information, I probably would not pay much attention to it.

Checking the last updated date is definitely a common practice for me since outdated articles lose trustworthiness quickly and keeping fresh relevant information posted is crucial for search engine ranking and for providing real actionable value to new readers.
