Does anybody suffer from bits of depression?

It's the lounge so the best place to meet people who may be going through the same thing.

I lost my mum when I was 21 and found my father had died in his chair when I was 36. Both brilliant people, superb parents, and miss them dearly. I moved to another part of the country and as I work online, I can't say I go out much and I think it's not exactly helping.

Just wondering if anybody is in the same boat and sometimes feels a bit down?
Hey, I'm really sorry to hear about the losses you've experienced. Losing both parents is incredibly tough, especially when they were such important figures in your life. It's totally understandable that you'd be feeling down, and it's brave of you to reach out and talk about it. Moving to a new area and working online can definitely make things feel isolating, so it's a good idea to connect with others. I hope you find some supportive people here who can relate to your experience!

Ok, if you say so. My decade of work experience in psychology/psychiatry care was not worth it then.

Ok. So you'll fully understand Prednisone and you'll fully understand somebody who was bullied from the age of 4 to 17.

17 was when I took up boxing and done it on and off for the last 20 years. And yes I did bully one of the people who bullied me. But you add that; the Pred; losing both my parents; and you can click your fingers and solve it all?

Sometimes. I try my best to be happy in my life. I don't take everything too seriously and only recently am I finally giving myself some well deserved self-respect.

Anyway OP, sorry for your loss.

I wouldn't speak for everyone if I were you. Sometimes things go south.

Yep. No way are all parents good parents. Mine were very nice people and great parents. A lot aren't.

Nice of you to assume what I understand or not understand.

Thanks Dave. I think I can help myself too - when I drink I think too much and that doesn't help. You kinda go through a bit of dysregulation and overthink. What you suggest makes perfect sense.
I know how it feels. The best things to do are things that can become part of your daily or weekly routine, so they can bring you back from the overthinking spiral. Sports and hobbies alongside some travel and a bit of volunteer work have been doing the trick for me for a long while now.

Never said that, only said "just try to accept it as fast as possible to get over it" and that is the way to go.

Exactly!!!!

You said "Get over it" - you've quoted yourself.

You do not "GET OVER" depression.

You do not "GET OVER" depression.
You get to a point where you get over it and move on, how you do that is different for everyone, if you don`t do that you will suffer for the rest of your life. But sure, it will always be with you in the back of your mind, but you need to come to acceptance. End of story.

I think it's best you stop posting. You're not helping.

Just fyi...
Believing that you’ll never get better is a common symptom of depression ;)
where is Dr @Yes when we need him

So I don't have that symptom.

But please - you know I'm right when I say depression can't be suddenly turned off? You don't just get over it?

I think you can get over depression. And without medications too, which is what pisses off the big pharma a lot because they can't sell their shit to you when you already have the power of your psyche to heal you and to prevent you from all evils...

Anyway, depression can be cured / turned off, both temporarily and permanently. But that's not easy to do if you're not aware of how depression works, and it also depends on how deep it is. If it's really deep and you can't identify its cause you might never be able to get rid of it completely. But it can be done...
