or what it is or anything?
I was just looking at my facebook, saw it come up in the news feed. It took me back to elementary school.

Saw it on my older cousins notebooks from when she was in elementary/middle school and shes in her late 30's now, I remember it from when I was in elementary/middle school. My younger cousin that's 16 now, him and his friends did it, and his brother thats 8 years old does it.

So my question is, where why and how did this symbol come about?

Dude. I'd love to know. That takes me back to kids drawing in spiral ring notebooks in the back of class.

looks like an 8, an S, an infinity sign, and a mobius strip all in one...

vaguely familiar as well...

It's just a cool block way of writing "S" as far as I know. My sister taught me a fun way of drawing that when we were kids, and it's stood for our names for us.

I never realized the infinity sign lol.

I would love to know the name of it or something, or what it means or best of all, how long it's been around.

I'm sure 95% of the people on BHW have seen it at one point or another

The symbol is from the clothing brand Stussy. We used to draw those all the time in school lol, guess we were bored. It was a Popular Skater clothing brand in the mid 90s.

Origins of the symbol are generally unknown
Damnit lol.

But that does kind of make sense.
I got a kick out of the part about it being banned because it was believed to be a gang related symbol

I could be wrong but I always thought it was the symbol for the rock band Styx. Back in the early 80's (shows how old I am) the band released an album with that symbol used as the "S" in their name.

That was a different "S", but styx rocks. :)

Dont want to remember about schools ;( It was way harder to study for meh :D

Wow, reading what everyone has to say, it seems like this symbol has deeper roots than just a thing that we all drew because of boredom lol

its a 'S' mexican use it back in the day to tag up alot of old g's have that S on them for Sur etc etc

It's the mysterious "double vagina" symbol.
It comes from the ancient Sumarians.

( It's not true but it sounded good, didn't it? :D )

The last time I saw that symbol, I was drawing it with some friends when I was little lol. I think it is just a variation of the Super man symbol.

So based off of that note, every single girl in the world is a cyclopes-vagina? haha
