Does anchor text on 2nd tier links make a difference?

When linking to your web 2 and article links etc., does it matter what anchor text you use? Should you put your keyword in the name when doing a SB blog commenting blast for example?

I've done both in the past and i haven't noticed a difference and wondered what others do?

Well, I had the same question before. I never did a study, but when blasting my tiered links, I do a mix. So I have about 10000 keywords being used as anchor text. 2500 are keywords scraped that are related to my niche. The other 7500 are random names. I figure that Google would like it that your links are being linked to using relevant anchor text.

The point is the value of contextual relevancy in regard to Google's LSI. So if your anchor text adds contextual relevancy to a second tier page, then I would say that it is indeed important.

Relevancy will continue to increase in importance. So even though the enhancement of link juice and authority may not make a measurable difference at present it very well could in the near future.

Well It can't hurt. It will definitely give the page on which your link is places a little authority for the keyword, thus giving your link more value.

But I think only one link can work.

There is very little difference in my experience, but using too many exact match keyword anchors is likely to trip over optimisation filters...

Also, with things like blog commenting, you'll have higher acceptance with real names than keyword embedded strings; especially if you're going for quality manual comments.

Use massively extended phrase-matched keywords and use a lot more generic and domain anchors, since you're likely to have a lot more volume of these types of links.

Keyword authority is mostly transmitted at the final link-hop, so it doesn't matter what you use really for 2/3 rd tier. It's more important to use anchors that are most likely to get the link to actually stick.
