Hi all.
Are you guys getting the same Adsense CPC on the first 4 days of 2014, compared to 2013?
I had received (pathetic) USD 0.07 ~ 0.08 of daily CPC for 2013 without change.
However, ever since the first day of 2014, CPS went down 50%!
Now I am getting (even more pathetic) USD 0.04 for CPC!
From my end, everything is the same, view counts, retention rate, etc.
So, the only explanation I can think of is, since the holiday season is over, the advertisers see the early January as off season and reduce their spending on advertisement.
What do you think?
And are you guys getting the same CPC on the first 4 days of 2014, compared to 2013?
Thanks and cheers!

It only makes sense, since Christmas was coming they probably spent most of their budget advertising since people would be more willing to buy. After Christmas they probably stop since they know people have spent most of their money during Christmas.

CPC depends entirely on what the advertiser bids for each slot, minus a cut by Google. So, one day you might see high-paying ads, another day there might be different ads which pay lower amounts. In addition, of course, one visitor might click a high-paying ad, another might click a low-paying one. There's really nothing you can do about it; click payments vary from day to day.

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, that is my guess as well.
Either way, this 'out of nowhere' drop of CPC is not so great for me. :-(

Yeah, it is supposed to change all the time.
However, USD 0.07 was kind of an invisible barrier price for me for past few months so I figured that I'd never see the price lower than USD 0.07 ever again.
Boy, I was wrong.
USD 0.04, 4 days in a row!
All the while, I am getting even larger number of views compared to 2013!
In theory I should get more money since I get more views and watching minutes yet the earning goes down to toilet for 4 days in a row....
Ugh...
Anyway thank you for the answer.

I am experiencing a 50-60% loss in revenue since the start of the new year as well with previously successful videos. Actually I noticed it starting to go down around the 29th, but this also coincided with new, different style content that I uploaded on the 29th. I was convinced this new content was the cause, but maybe there is something else actually in play here. Will stick around with this thread.

Edit: I've also went from 0.07/click in Dec to 0.04/click so far this month.
Looking at the weekly Page CTR, all full weeks in Dec were ~6.5%. Last week in Dec/First week in Jan I'm at 3.3%. A lot less clicks this week.

do you know why your cpc is so low? I am making money with adsense the past 3-4months and never ever experienced anything below 0.20 per click

how much is your keyword worth?

Advertisers & potential buyers spent their budget in December.
If my average CPC was 0.80e last month, now it went down to 0.30-0.35. So it's natural.

You will see things picking up by end Jan- mid-Feb. Don't worry too much.

Hi Soda, what you are experiencing is very similar with my issue.
I am also having decrease of CTR (50% decrease compared to 2013) along with CPC decrease.
I don't think it's your new content since my contents are same yet still I began to see this pattern, starting from the first day of new year.

Hi thank you for the reply.
The reason of my low CPC is that I don't have one targeted niche.
My channel deals with a couple of different topics so it is not really targeted onto one niche area, which would make CPC higher just like your channel.

You just confirmed my assumption on what is going on with this sudden change.
I guess I have to be patient, waiting for a couple of weeks to see the positive change.
Thanks a bunch and cheers!

You could use those weeks to find better keywords, with a higher CPC :)

Came here looking for this exact confirmation. Same thing happened to me with my adsense linked youtube accounts. Revenue is at 40% of what it was just before Chistmas.
