Does a sitemap help with indexing?

I have a site with hundreds of thousands of pages. Will my site index quicker if I create a sitemap and send it to google via WT? Because right now only about 2000 pages are indexed.

A sitemap will help a lot. Create one asap. If you're using Wordpress use google xml sitemap plugin
 
Sure, Sitemap is necessary for every site. If you are not submitted your sitemap still today then submit it now to have more indexing.

Also you should use RSS readers to read your posts by search engines. There are many other sources such as pinging method etc.
 
I'm surprised when I hear people still don't use sitemaps for their websites.
 
Use a sitemap and make sure you submit it to google. If you google webmaster tools setup for that site, make sure that you upload the sitemap to that account also.
 
Sitemap plays very important role when one is talking about index all the inner pages of the website.
 
well, for some of my sites, all pages were indexed without sitemap. where as for some sites, i have to manually submit the sitemap for full index. so I feel there is something other than sitemap as well, which helps in quick indexing.
 
A sitemap makes the job of Crawlers & Bots easy. So Sitemap is the first thing every webmaster should take care of.

Yes, a sitemap will be of GREAT HELP. It is an important part of a website. Not only it is a map of your site, it is also a communication tool between your site and search engines. It also helps to adapt your site for SEO.

Sitemap makes the search engine bots to crawl your site. You only make it once, and submit once... so, why not make one?
 
If its a wordpress website, you can use Yoast SEO plugin to automatically create and submit your sitemap to major search engines.

Check sitemap generators on google. You can add up to 50000 links per sitemap and you can use multiple sitemaps per site. In my opinion interlinking the articles helps to get indexed better and also helps to rank.

Don't you guys think that go0gle is smart enough to crawl inner pages without your help?
 
Sitemap will submit your urls to google as soon they are published. Whether the url get indexed or not depends on the quality of content and google itself. You must submit the sitemap asap
 
Yes, it will help and you can make multiple layers within your sitemap for silos. But again if most of your content is crap and duplicate, it may get put into the supplemental index.
