Does a hyphen decrease domain value?

Hey guys I have a question that I stumbled upon that I just cant find any answers for so some input would be appreciated Does having a hyphen in the domain decrease the domain value?

For example:

Lets say selfhelp.com is on sale for $1000 with 12,000 monthly searches, but its actually the incorrect spelling of the word (it should be "self-help" http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/self–help). Now lets say that I picked up self-help.com which is he correct spelling.. is it worth more or less then the simplified .com? In theory it would be hitting the same exact keywords since google sees a hyphen as a space (if I understand that right ) but its the correct spelling of the word.


Like I said.. Any input would be appreciated

If a Million Dollar domain sells for $75 its worth $75, if a $10 domain sells for a million bucks, its worth a million bucks! My point is, it's only worth as much as someone pays for it. Hows your sales skills...lol!

I have sold a lot of domains and I've never been able to dump a domain with a hyphen. On top of that, I would never build a website I plan to make successful with a hyphenated domain. More than 50% of your word of mouth referral traffic will go to the same domain that doesn't have a hyphen.

Imagine trying to explain to someone who's not internet savvy that they have to put a dash or hyphen in between the words. When you could have just said " my website is selfhelp.com, check it out".

yes it do comes with a negative impact

It'll affect much on domains value.
