Does (5x PR1) = (1x PR5)
Im thinking of ways to analyse my competition, and try and get a better ideas of what kind of links to get
For example

Should i try and get 1x PR5 link instead of 5x PR1 ranked pages

No, its not a linear thing.

It will take 1000's of PR1's to match a PR5.

Ignore PR, if you don't understand it use other metrics.

Nope. Don't use PR to analyse anything, as it isn't visibly updated anymore.

It always surprises me how more people don't know this by now.

Listen to that what Hughes said and ignore the PR (in the most cases).

And remember - it's better to get 1 quality link per month rather than 10 low quality links.

Actually I've observed that .gov PR1 can rank higher than a PR5 link.
The issue I find with Page Rank, is that I don't know exactly why, it takes ages to update. I have >2yr DA>40 CF>30 TF>30 domains with PR1 !
So you can have an hiper-tier3-blasted site with high PR and a super ranker with minimal PR.

It's because everyone selling domain related services still pushes the PR as a sales pitch and so half the people still think PR matters.

2 years since google updated PR, don't worry about PR as a metric.

Thanks ever so much for the info, iv only just started studying seo, quite new, iv been using the moz bar, and seo quake to get a better idea

Would you tell me which metrics are moat important when looking at competitors links and how good they are

It would actually sound sensical, but I've tried doing that and I can say a PR5 will do better than 5 PR1s.
