Do youtube trueview ads damage view rate ?

Just a coincidence, if anything Google would be only interested in giving you more views after monetizing. If you haven't monetized your videos and no one have claimed the copyrights on it then no one earns the money including the Google itself.
My experience shows that monetizing or demonetizing video doesn't make any difference at all.

Trueviews ads can have effect on the view rate, especially with ad-aware persons, like when you post on reddit.
When redditors see ads, they click the back button, and downvote your link. Even if you have registered a view, it's with 0 seconds retention, which puts your video down in YT SERP.

Me personally I think people are more likely skipping the whole video than waiting these 5 secs to skip the ad. Like I said all the big youtubers don't have trueview ads so I guess they know what they are doing !

I apologize for my ignorance, but Trueview ads are the advertisements in which start on the actual video screen before the video even begins, and usually you can skip them after a period of time?
If that's what you are referring to, I think it's only plausible to say YES, it will decrease your view count. I'd put it on the lines of another example, Adfly. Obviously your click count would drop if you made your users wait 5 seconds, then click the continue button - I'm sure it would be hand in hand with Trueview ads.

Totally agreed. Basically when I first saw the ads on a youtube video years ago I immediately searched on google for something so these ads won't show up anymore ! When I do like a gamer or something on the other hand I deactivate the ad blocker.

The reality is, none of us enjoy watching ads we're technically forced to watch if we wish to see the video (without adblock which I never installed/use out of respect).
Customers think like customers, aka the "I want" mindframe. They don't want ads, but business savvy people like us understand how ads are necessary for income.
Everyone wants to complain but little do they realize, they're not helping the provider create more videos without watching ads that pay the provider.
We're in an age where the term "support" is only heard of when you call that phone number at the bottom of a webpage. Helping eachother seems to be the last thing anyone wants to do.
