I’ve never tried youtube shorts because they seem fairly useless and very demanding when it comes to making money. I’ve always done long-form content, but currently I have a new channel that doesn’t get any views. I was wondering: if I started doing shorts, would they boost impressions for my long-form videos? Also, a bit off topic, but if I buy a new channel that got its subs and views from shorts, would long form content be just as hard to grow as it would be on a brand-new channel?

Short are easy way to start and build up your channel you can reach advance settings pretty quickly compared to long form. You can easily get 100 to 1k views on every shorts if you know what your are doing.
Advanced setting let's your posts links in the description which can help you make money with long form content.
You can post shorts about a topic like a teaser and ask users to check out your channel for full video. You can obviously ask to subscribe In a short.
It will be easier to grow if you buy a channel with shorts then a brand new channel.

Shorts can help with visibility but they don’t usually push long videos on their own and even a Shorts based channel still has to build long form the normal way

I'd like to add that using YouTube Shorts as a teaser for your long-form content can be an effective strategy to drive traffic to your full videos. By creating engaging and informative shorts, you can pique the interest of your audience and encourage them to visit your channel for more in-depth content. However, as mentioned earlier, Shorts alone may not be enough to significantly boost impressions for your long-form videos. Can you tell me more about your current content strategy and what type of long-form content you're creating, perhaps we can brainstorm some ideas on how to incorporate Shorts to complement your existing content? Additionally, I'm curious to know, have you considered utilizing YouTube's "video series" feature to connect your Shorts to your long-form content and create a more cohesive viewing experience?

Short videos won't increase the visibility of your longer videos; in fact, they can hurt them if you don't have a defined strategy. Short videos tend to gain subscribers faster, but those subscribers are often not interested in long-form content.

I suggest you first grow your channel with long videos and then post clips from those same videos.

Shorts can help your channel get noticed and bring in subscribers, but they don’t automatically turn into long-form views unless the Shorts and long videos are on the same topic and attract the same audience; and buying a Shorts-based channel doesn’t really give an advantage for long videos, because those subscribers often came for quick content and may not watch longer videos, so long-form growth still depends on making content people actually want to watch and stay on.

Shorts are for locking your audience's eyeballs into your content and they can help you by asking people in the dedicated short to subscribe to your channel. That being said once subscribed your audience can watch more and longer videos that you have created turning your long form content and channel into a gold laying goose. The channel that you buy if it already has reach with shorts it will be able to grow faster.

So I just posted some shorts. One got 1.6K views, the second got 4, and the third got 600 views. I really don’t like how they muddy the data for my long form content. Now all these shorts make the analytics look weird. The shorts probably brought around 40 views to my long form videos from direct clicks.

Yes, shorts can bring new viewers to your channel, but long-form growth still needs good content and engagement even on a channel that grew with shorts.

Shorts can help with exposure, but they do not automatically boost long form videos. The algorithms are different. Shorts viewers do not always convert into long form watchers.
If you use Shorts, keep them in the same niche and funnel viewers to your longer content. Otherwise you just build a Shorts audience with low long form engagement.
Buying a Shorts grown channel will not make long form easier. Those subs are trained for short content, so long form can still struggle. Sometimes a fresh channel focused only on long form performs better.

Shorts may be useful sometimes with exposure, but cant say for sure if they could push long vids. They actually help though especially if the have a nice hook. they may bring new eyes who may later watch the main long vids. I really cant say much about buying shorts grown channels. But i feel the subs might have gotten used to the shorts, so....

Sort of, but don't hold your breath
YouTube recently updated its algorithm so that if someone watches your Short, the system is more likely to "test" one of your long-form videos on their homepage

shorts + long form run on different discovery loops - shorts is swipe feed retention, long form is CTR + session time - so subs from shorts are low intent most of the time

your 1.6k + 600 views bringing only ~40 clicks to long form is actually normal, that’s like 1-2% transition which is average unless the short is literally a clipped hook from the long vid

if you want it to translate, don’t post random shorts - clip the strongest 20-40 sec from the long video, same title theme + same keywords, pin comment “full vid on channel” - treat shorts as top of funnel, not separate content

buying a shorts channel won’t magically rank long form - those subs are trained to swipe, not sit 10 min - sometimes a clean long-form-only channel converts better because the algo categorizes you properly from day 1

I was in the same boat, with a brand new channel and no views. When I added some short videos, I noticed they did generate impressions and helped people discover longer videos. It's not automatic and doesn't guarantee money, but it serves as a gateway. If you buy a channel that already uses short videos, you'll still have to work on the longer content, because the audience doesn't always translate.

Shorts can help with exposure but they don’t automatically push your long-form - the audiences often don’t overlap much. What they’re good for is getting initial attention and feeding some traffic if you funnel viewers properly (pinned comments, clear CTA, related topics). Buying a channel that grew from Shorts usually doesn’t make long-form easier either, because those subs often don’t convert to long video viewers, so you’re basically starting fresh in terms of watch behavior. If your goal is long-form growth, Shorts should be used as a support funnel, not the main strategy.

They will increase views of your long videos until you stop posting shorts. As soon as you stop posting them, views will immediately drop everywhere.

Shorts can help with visibility and getting your name in front of new people, but they don’t automatically translate into long form views since the audiences often behave differently. Sometimes they boost overall impressions, but you still need a strong bridge that pushes Shorts viewers toward your longer videos.

If you buy a channel that grew from Shorts, long form can still be just as hard because those subscribers may not be interested in watching longer content. In many cases, it’s almost like starting from scratch unless the niche and audience intent are closely aligned.

Shots can increase visibility, but they don't automatically boost long-form videos because YouTube promotes them differently.
