I apologize if this has been asked before but I could only find one thread on this and it wasn't very elaborate.

I've used Webmaster Tools and Analytics religiously up to this point, but recently took a couple of hits to my Google rankings and am reconsidering. I try to stay primarily white hat, but likely have some questionable methods in Googles eyes. My biggest conern, obviously, is hurting my rankings so:

1. Do you use webmaster tools and analytics.
2. Do you think that using these tools might inadvertently attract heat from the G-man?

1) No.
2) You are leaving footprints so that is up to you.

As jerzydawg said, it can leave footprints. I currently only have a few sites, and they are all listed in GWT and GA. But I'm going to be moving away from them soon. Too risky IMO

Yeah that's my feeling too now. Google just keeps getting scarier and scarier lol. Too damn risky!

I use them for 1 site only, because I have a lot of websites in similar niches (entertainment), and base all my work off of the information gathered from that single domain.

I don't feel good sharing too much information with bigG so I use alternatives like Bing Webmaster Tools and Piwik.

Many savvy marketers in known forums advise not to use GA,I wonder what is the the best alternative to use on wordpress blogs?

I use them for my white hat only sites, which is namely my own personal site.

For everything else I use piwik. I also run seperate instances of piwik.

The main consideration is here is that no one can make a connection between the sites. That way if one gets flagged, the others remain unconnected and not traceable.

Another no vote...Unless you are doing everything exactly the way Google recommends all you are doing by adding Google code to your site is handing them more rope to hang you with. Give them as little information as possible.

I use both of them for all my sites. Never had any problem. There can hardly be any better source of information than Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics (if you know how to work with these tools).

Come on guys, don't be to suspicious. If Google wants to know, HE will know, doesn't matter if you use the tools or not.

Yes I use both of them. The webmaster tools are for configuring the sites in the search engine so that they appears to the right people. The analytics because that's the standard when showing proof of traffic while flipping.
