I don't. It's been years since I've used one.
I bought a laptop a few weeks ago and it came with mcafee, which was the first thing I uninstalled lol.

I don't think there's a need of one if you are just careful what you download and where you go.

But do you use one? Do you consider it necessary?

Bro - Yes I always prefer to use an antivirus to keep my machine safe and secure..

I was using Macbook my office with an antivirus at all for last 10 years an it was working efficient..

But in windows, I always prefer - mcafee or any other better antivirus.

Cheers

Nah. I use a host blocker, though, that blocks a massive list of around 3 million domains, including ads and known malicious IPs. And yeah I don't visit dodgy sites.
I used to use AV, but in the past few years I've noticed that AV is becoming similar to spyware/adware. The last one I had was bitdefender premium, and they kept bothering me with popups asking me to buy their VPN etc it was annoying af.

I use malwarebytes. It's pretty good. Works well along with windows defender.

Yeah, you pay them not to show popups in sites but they show you popups haha

yep, same here. I disable anything that increases the number of "Are you sure you want to do XYZ" prompts, including UAC.
Right. That's just overprotecting people for no reason.

MacBook... So no anti virus. On my work Laptop I don't even know what av software I have installed lol

"safety" has become the new go-to sales tactic. Random SaaS companies promise to keep my data "Safe" even though I will use fake data to sign up anyway, microsoft says they'll keep me safe if I just sign up with a microsoft account so they can send me more notifications, Google will send me emails telling me they're really concerned about my privacy and security while tracking everything I do, and don't get me start on how every single restaurant has taken up safety as their USP post-COVID "our food tastes meh, but we'll keep you safe".
It's a circle-jerk of snowflakes who never learned risk assessment.

This one used to be pretty good from what I remember - - I used it a lot in 2017. Do they bombard you with notifications these days as well, or is there atleast an opt-out?

Nothing more then the built-in Windows Defender, what you download is more important in preventive actions then some add-on antivirus software. Atleast that is my experience in computers since almost 28 years of building and owning computers.

I use a Linux distro as my daily driver so never had the need for an antivirus. Most malware won't work on Linux machines anyways because most target windows and it has a different executable format.

I do use a host blocker tho. It runs on an rpi (it's called PiHole). Quite handy for blocking ads and sus domains.

You can turn off notifications from the settings.
They're the best when it comes to quick updates against new malwares and Trojans.

Nope, i am just careful about the downloading programs
