Do you use an alias while on the internet?

With all the black-hatters floating around the internet, it doesn't seem smart to trust people with your real name and info. Do you use a fake name when conducting business over the internet, or does it become too much of a hassle when you sometimes have to deal with clients and associates more personally?

If you use aliases, what are some tips or tricks you use to keep track of them?

I'm curious about this as well...

Creating a product now an weighing the options of real vs fake name.
It seems like there are pros and cons to both.

...But the big con to using your real info is that there will always be customers that are 'that guy' and if they don't like your work they could tarnish your name on the internet forever even if your giving an honest effort. Getting a real job could be difficult after using your real name I suppose. That's my concern.

it'd be nice if some more people could chime in on this, could save some people from getting burned!

I sometimes use an alias and keep track of all the names and everything in notepad. I hardly ever use one anymore though.

And the con of using a fake name is that it gets tricky to do so if you work more closely with your clients, and you have to make sure you remain consistent with the name which can be quite an effort. Neither option, real or fake, is perfect.
