slap it on a blog and use it as it
I will make changes as I see fit.
Maybe it's just me, but no premium (non-custom) theme is really a "One-size-fits-all".
It's generic at most.

Premiums are better. You can get premium themes from Deleted member 752298 if you don't have budget to buy.

yes i use Themefy themes, they are good and well supported never had a problem (ok a quick fixed 1 issue 1 time only) in 3 years of using them. I wouldn't go back to a free theme, as they are unsupported, and don't get updated unless it s popular one already made by a dev team.
I remember starting off, I used to change themes like I change my underpants. Like maybe once a month? lol and it would always be a hassle. Now I just use themefiy, and build on top of the themes they supply.

thats like saying sticks can kill people. It depends if you want a better user and backend experience. WIth premium themes from a good team you know that things are handled.

A new or small-scale site probably doesn't need the premium version of a theme. If it does get more successful and needs more features, it will get updated anyway, and a free user will likely do so with the theme they're already familiar with.

i am using free themes only for my blog. If we need more style or more options to look better then premium themes is good.

Of course Premium, free version can't be better then premium because most of the time premium themes have premium features and premium looks, saves you time for customizing and etc..
I've used couple in the past: OceanWP, Astra and GeneratePress, if I had to choose now I'd go with GeneratePress ( + GenerateBlocks )
