To answer your question, you just have to look back 10 years ago. Spamming (and doing it successfully) was much easier than nowadays, so I think it will be the same story in 10 - 20 years: spamming will still works but you will have to be more careful & creative than today.

Anyone who has been in the game more than a decade will tell you things are always tightening up. Pick the low hanging fruit while it's there as Wilson said because you don't know what the market situation will be like in the future.
For highly skilled and sharp people there will always be crafty ways around any protection but for the vast majority of IMers things will slowly continue to tighten up.
TLDR; Make money now when you can, sharpen skills & always keep learning to stay ahead of the curve.
