The recent commission cut seems like yet another step toward the inevitable...

What do you think?

My guess is the next step is 0.5-1% commissions

No.
They will always want people creating content for them.

What they will do is make it almost worthless for people to do, unless you are in a third world country with low wage costs.

Another interesting question is how many amazon employees directly work with affiliates - can the affiliate program justify paying those salaries with enough incremental revenue?

May be not.

They will bring it to the bottom like 1% commission for all categories.
Unfortunately people would still link to Amazon because there are no better programs out there. I wish someone would sue Amazon for ruining their livelihood during this coronavirus pandemic period.

Seems like they have been on a rampage lately. They also banned Commission Junction this month.

Poor Bezos probably trying to make up for all the money he lost because of the divorce.

Did Amazon give a reason?

They obviously didn't. Though, from the looks of it, they want to keep all the profits from sales by cutting down 3rd party affiliates. They also banned SkimLinks.

They obviously achieved full market control through affiliates, now it's time to become the dictator.

I think as an affiliate you just have to diversify your income and get used to being f*cked up the a*s.

Amazon has shown time and time again that they don't give af about their affiliates.

I think "No" as this is an easy targeted traffic source for them. They will continue to decrease commissions but they will keep it open as there will be always someone still continue to use Amazon Affiliate. Also they are still developing new features etc. if they plan to end it, I think they would not invest more.

No they won't but they will do some bad stuff to affiliates like decreasing the % of commissions. The reason why they won't get rid of their affiliate program it's because they are using affiliates for close to free publicity

They are stupid because the more affiliates they have, the best their income will be too, super affiliates helped them become what they are today too, and amazon is synonym with affiliate marketing since the end of the 90's if I remember correctly, it is really a shocker news and a bad message that they give to everybody who was associated with them.
