I hope AI browsers like ChatGPT Atlas is gonna beat the fuck outta Google and Chrome shit, man.

it will take time. i am hoping for change but it is literally a chromium fork, so it's always going to have a lot of similarities. the real issue is dealing with prompt injection, how to make it secure while making it functional.

Everyone likes whats new, until something new comes along. I think thats a bit like these new ai browsers. Chrome was once that new shiney thing. Now its just the standard browser model for others to develop their own repo from it. I'm hoping these new ai browsers arn't just chromium in disguise? and bring something fresh to the web for consumers and developers.

If I'm correct they already did something like that; Chrome is an AI browser now, with Gemini baked in for generative summaries, tab organization, and "I'm Feeling Lucky" prompts. I think in near future we'll witness browsers morph into "intent orchestrators", blending AI chats with web actions.
So not being Google-lover — I don't think Google is going to get killed; at least not in the sense of wiping out the company or even dethroning Chrome anytime soon. Switching browsers is rather hard, you know. People cling to Chrome for synced passwords, extensions (plethora of them available), bookmarks, account integration etc. That being said: it's a paradigm shift from passive scrolling to conversational web interaction.

Did you refer to my post? From what I read about this, Google has rolled out Gemini directly into Chrome as a free feature (for U.S. desktop users of Mac and Windows), expanding from earlier paid subscriptions. According to them it isn't just a superficial add-on, but (they say) it's a codebase-level integration that leverages the browser's core APIs for context-aware AI (you know: open tabs, browsing history, real-time page content etc.).
In contrast Chromium (I mean Chrome's open-source base) lacks these baked-in capabilities. If I'm correct (I actually still prefer to use Firefox) AI in Chromium relies on third-party extensions. Chrome's version, from what I read, also includes proprietary enhancements like enhanced security (AI scam detection) and so-called Omnibox AI Mode for contextual searches.

It is not so easy to beat Google. They also have lot of money and best of workforce to make improvements.

I spend most of time in online activities but I did not still knew that there is anything like AI browser. So, leave the common man also and that is the audience for these tools at present . Negligible compared to Google users.

I discovered, around 5 years ago, that this can't simply happen anymore.
It's impossible to develop a new browser from scratch in 2025.
The standard nowadays is near to infinite. There is no company in this world willing to invest the amount of capital required for this venture.
Look at Firefox and how it took an eternity to support view transitions.
Safari is always lagging for a reason
Someone will say: What about Ladybird? Ladybird is a joke.
Google was the last Mohican to jump on the browser cart on time before the standard went wild (you remember when people used to use jQuery back in 2000s early 2010s and was better than the sliced bread?). We are now by ES16 and jQuery is not a thing anymore.
The race is just between Blink/V8 vs Gecko with only an exit with a new reinvention of the Internet, as we know.
On the bright side, Blink/V8 is BSD, so at least it can be somewhat forked to all these weird browsers we are seeing nowadays (but noone is crazy enough, to ignore upstream standard updates after forking).

This a fresh perspective. I have no idea about these.
We'll see if its possible or not! lol i still think that even products go through trend cycle, and since I assume the majority of browser hijaks and things related to scamming and malware, happen in chrome. becuase that has the biggest user base, and most browser plugins, then the trend of tech savy people might be saying to everyone soon "DONT install chrome, install this browser instead" lol Then i would say its over for chrome. Word of mouth still is the best/worst marketing opportunity.

AI browsers like ChatGPT Atlas certainly have potential to shake things up, but Google and Chrome have built a strong ecosystem. It will be interesting to see how AI browsers evolve to compete!

It will probably take time, but it would be interesting to see such a development. Google was the king of researching and searching for so long!
