Do You Split Test Landers First Or Ads First?

Focus on getting traffic first—that’s where the biggest drop-off is. Then optimize your landers to convert that traffic.

I used to start with landers but learned the hard way. Now it’s always ads first—it saves time, money, and headaches.

Prioritize driving traffic first—that’s where most of the drop-off happens. Once that’s steady, optimize your landing pages for conversions.

The normal practice is to test ads first, as there's no point in optimizing a landing page if the ad creative isn’t driving traffic. If the ads are not bringing in clicks, then working on the landing page won’t be effective. Once you have traffic, then focus on optimizing the landing page.

Most people start by testing ads first since it is cheaper and faster to see what angle attracts clicks. Once you find a winning ad then split test landers to boost conversion rates without wasting budget.

When running new campaigns, do you usually start testing the landing pages first or focus on different ad creatives and then move to the landers? I’m trying to cut costs on testing, so want to know what’s more effective.
I usually start with creatives first, bro. No point testing landers if the ads themselves don’t catch attention.

In my experience, I always start with ad testing. If the ad doesn’t bring in clicks, there’s no point worrying about the landing page yet. Once I identify ads that perform, I then optimize the landing pages to try and improve the ROI.

I test ads first to find winning angle, then optimize lander after getting some data.

Usually I test ads first. If the ad isn’t getting good CTR, the landing page test won’t matter much because you won’t get enough traffic. So I start by testing different ad creatives and headlines to find the best CTR. Once I find a winning ad, then I start split-testing landing pages to improve conversions. This way you don’t waste too much budget on testing everything at the same time.
