Do you use sidebars on your blog site?

Some bloggers say sidebars on blogs are bad in terms of SEO (they distract the visitors, makes article look cramped up, etc).
While others swear by the SEO importance of sidebars and it's impact on higher visitor on-site retention and user experience.
Which team are you on?
Personally I am not using a sidebar on my blog.

I use sidebars for easier navigation.
My $0.02 is that sidebars have no/minimum effect on SEO.
 
Not always but on some websites, I have a sidebar promoting a related offer/banner or even email signup form.
Those related posts thing, I like to keep it below the post.
 
Navigation Links can just nofollow them if you are worried
You don't want to invade your menu bar with 2189371264782930213213 links to 238292183213 subtopics inside your 1 niche either.

customize it to be disabled in smaller screens or tablets if neccessary.
Having it pure blank with sure narrow reading space on a blog more annoying distracting imo
doesn't give the user the proper reading experience.

I plan on doing the same too. When I start getting 10 visitors a day atleast I'll put up a banner ad in the sidebar related to my niche and maybe a custom pdf/tool link).
Till then I am keeping no sidebar.

My content is in full width for now. There's no space for sidebar.

How would that full width look on a 50 inch TV or a 2k/4k montior?
noone wants to move their neck left to right to read either.
Gotta keep those little things in mind aswell
 
If you want to give clean interface to users, you can remove it. but yes sidebar has its own advantages like you can display categories and banner ads.
 
I use the sidebar for decreasing the bounce rate or increasing the ad revenue. Sidebar does not do much but I want to extract as much as possible from my sites.

So only ad banners in the sidebars?
 
I have seen that less blogs are using sidebars now. This is because such blogs are hard to optimize for mobile view.

That is not true.
The sidebar appears after the content on mobile so it has nothing to do with optimisation.

I used sidebars for promoting service. I seen others use it for ads and Email subscription.

Usage of sidebar should not clutter and not to add too many.
 
well sidebar now used for ads mostly. i prefer topbar and menu on diff page
