what happens if you use photos that are not yours on instagram? does that make you likely to get banned?

If the original owner sees it they can flag the pic and it will get removed and if it happens too much they will ban you. So yes source the images.

Definitely source them. Even if it's nature pics or something, had a test account get disabled for posting 3 nature photos within 5 hours back in the good old days of Instagram

What I would do is just tag @ the original owner of the picture. No harm done to be honest and they'll feel like it's a shoutout for them
