My goal is to build niche websites but some member here told me that I need to stuff my site with content reguraly?

Why then some people have niche site with 15 articles and thats it and they are ranking according to my knowledge?

I do talk about niche sites that are ranked with low competetion kw’s not like some medium, high competetion where I guess it is probably needed
to post content regurarly to beat these guys.

Niche sites do not have a lot of articles. But the limited articles they have, need to be updates from time to time.

im sure if your niche is very small you can get away with just having 15 pages or if you have very good backlinks. I think adding more content is always going to be better as it gives you more chances to rank for kws.

Yeah, this make sense. Btw, do google allow ogads content lockers? I give you example. I do create niche site how to play chess and then I do lock pdf with my strategies. Should I do direct link to content locker or do separate bridge page to the pdf?

if your niche is very specific and low competitive then less articles are okay with that, but if you have high competitive website then you need to have more backlinks and da/dr.

Does da/dr increase with consistent content? It is one of the element besides backlinks?

yes, basically da mean domain authority which prefers url authority, and dr - domain rating which is increase with off-page seo things, yes if you daily have backlinks of your new posted articles with 30-50 backlinks which will help you in best way.

sweet, but what if my budget is limited and I cannot invest to backlinks? Then I guess I can do my own backlinks posting my post on reddit, youtube, ig right?

From my experience, it's not about posting consistently - it's about covering your niche thoroughly. If your niche is super specific (like "left-handed bass fishing techniques"), you might only need 15-20 really solid articles to cover everything valuable.

But here's the thing - you should update those articles when needed. Google loves fresh content, so even with a small site, you want to keep your existing articles current and relevant rather than constantly pumping out new ones.

Just my 2 cents from running a few small niche sites over the years.

What is main reason to update? Lets say I run chess strategy site and these strategies does not change so why update? Is it adapting to google updates reason?

Good question. Even with evergreen topics like chess strategies, updates matter for a few reasons. It's not just about changing the actual strategy content.

You can update by adding recent tournament examples where your strategy was used, mentioning new top players who excel with certain approaches, or incorporating modern chess engine analysis. This shows Google (and users) that your site is actively maintained and relevant.

Plus, you can improve user experience by updating your article format, adding better diagrams, or including video explanations - things that make your content more engaging for today's readers. That's what I mean by keeping content fresh, even when the core information stays the same.

so, what content will you update the site with if you cover everything in 15-20 articles?

And just for the record, I do agree that google rewards sites that are updated, but as someone who had owned sites in small niches ("learn ice sculpting" for example) I always struggled updating them, and in the end I sold the sites as I genuinely had no content to update them with besides the eventual news in those industries, and even the news were rare and obscure.

So, how do you solve this?

That's a great point about truly niche topics. When I mentioned updates, I wasn't suggesting forcing new content just for the sake of it. Instead, think about enhancing existing content in meaningful ways:
  1. Adding case studies/examples as they emerge
  2. Improving presentation (better images, videos, infographics)
  3. Expanding sections based on user questions/comments
  4. Including new research or tool recommendations

For your ice sculpting example, you could update with:
  • New techniques or tools that enter the market
  • Interviews with sculptors
  • Event coverage/gallery of notable works
  • Troubleshooting common issues readers ask about

It's about deepening the value of existing content rather than constantly creating new articles. Sometimes that means waiting for genuine developments in the field rather than forcing updates.

Type to google "weiqi to go" and look on first site. This site have no fresh content and is very old and still it is ranked number one. But it seems it does have very little searches so idk if its good example.

New techniques or tools that enter the market
these would be known and already addressed in the 20 articles, hence why it's so hard to find new stuff to write about...

Troubleshooting common issues readers ask about
these have also been addressed, after researching dozens of sources (literally) and competitors in the industry I got to find the most asked questions (30-40 of them) and I addressed them all on the FAQ page.

  1. Adding case studies/examples as they emerge
  2. Improving presentation (better images, videos, infographics)
  3. Expanding sections based on user questions/comments
  4. Including new research or tool recommendations
these are great points, however. Unfortunately, I don't have those small niche sites anymore, but these may come in handy to others with similar sites.

Cheers for the tips!

15 articles are too few. You need more articles to rank. Those who rank with 15 articles probably have very good and many backlinks.

Thanks, so how many? I do have lucrative 1 keyword. Do you think I dont get penalty if I do similar articles on same keyword? It is very specific kw with very very high monthly searches and very low competetion.

If your site is already ranking you don't need to post anything else unless you're looking to grow.

Some niche sites rank with just 15 articles because they target low-competition keywords with high-quality, relevant content.
For low-competition niches, frequent content updates aren’t always needed.
However, as competition grows, adding new content can help maintain rankings.
For more competitive keywords, regular updates and content expansion are usually necessary to stay competitive.

It depends on the quality of the article, how often they are updating the existing articles with the updated information, and how specific you are about the niche or topic. Also, if you publish more articles on niche websites it will make your website stronger and you can rank for a variety of keywords. It brings more traffic to your website.
