Do you guys experience this too with your websites?

I've been building a pretty cool blog for a few months now, and I've noticed something really strange...When my traffic from other referring sites like social networks (like twitter, facebook, and tumblr) and message boards is up, my search traffic from google goes down a significant amount(almost 70%). But when my social network/message board traffic is low, then my google search traffic shoots up. It's just really strange to me because I'd love to see them both high at the same time obviously. What's up with this?

Google Analytical/Webmaster tools installed. Social Networks, including sites like Reddit have a super high bounce rate like 85-90%, this will cause a red flag to Google's data making it look like your site is poor quality. Thus you're search engine ranks are going to drop down momentarily till things adjust back out. In other words if you're doing social, make sure you don't use GA.

Or, just never use GA, ever, for any reason, ever.

This just on what site? WHat sort of traffic volume are you talking about? If it's less than 100 per day then... well it could just be random.

If you have the google webmaster tools then track your keyword rankings if they decrease then there must be some wrong .

so now we're just hopping on one foot to the next at a time while google laughs...i thought post penguin social signals were the way to go. would it be hard to sell the site using piwik's information?
