Serious question.

So i live in an apartment, and i have a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, toilet, and shower drain.

These 4 places have like a drain which goes into a pipe in the wall or floor and the pipe goes to some imaginary place no one knows where.

So ive written instructions for myself on how and how often to clean various things in the apartment (washing machine, dishwasher, air cons etc), but today i was thinking how i didnt even consider the drains.

Water makes limestone, there's mold, piss, shit, this that and the other going down the drains. Maybe it would be good for example once every 3 months to pour some vinegar and baking soda down each drain, let sit for a bit, and then wash away with hot water.

Do you guys do any regular maintenance on the drains in your place?

@BassTrackerBoats i have a feeling youre a man of the house and will have a few words to say on this :D

Some of you guys may think my question is ridiculous, but its not, because im not the only one, and grow up :p

I just flush them with hot water regularly, works well. No need for anything other then hot water.

Well, i guess easily doable on sinks and shower. The toilet too? Like you fill a bucket and swish in the toilet goes the hot water?

But only water wont eat away any junk like limestone for example. Vinegar on the other hand will kick its ass.

I clean the hoses 3-4 times a year. Also, as a preventive measure, open/close faucets each month, to prevent limestone on the inside. You never know when one blows up!

How do you clean the hoses exactly?

What do you mean open/close faucets? I use my faucets every day.

Na, I just flush it as normal.

Don´t know about Limestone, don´t have that in our systems. All I can say is that I have probably cleaned/flushed more systems then a regular member here have done in their entire life, used to work with this as a profession some years ago. But never with some limestone systems, since that is not the type of systems we have in this country.

Hot water. For example I disassemble the drain pipe and clean every part. I meant the valves or how are they called. The ones under your sink and everything.

I’ve got a septic system in my yard so I am extremely careful about what goes in the drains to begin with. Throughout my life I’ve found it’s only necessary to clean drains or pipes if they are clogged or if there’s gnats coming out of them. Other than that, I don’t perform any maintenance on the drains in my house.

But every water should make some limestone, unless its distilled. Because water has minerals, and the more minerals the harder the water, and it will make limestone.

Limestone in your kettle, limestone in your shower head holes, limestone wherever it goes after a while.

Maybe im wrong on the science there haha, but i always have limestone in my kettle after using it for a while. Then i pour and boil some vinegar in and it cleans it up.

Hm, yeah, no :D

I dont really wanna disassemble and mess with those. Because when you clean that and put it back, next thing you know water is dripping, and you have no idea why and you can never fix it.

Im just looking to pour something down the drains every few months, leave it for 15 minutes, an hour, overnight, and then wash away. Dissolve any limestone/hair and stuff, kill some bacteria or whatever, keep those pipes clean and open. Done.

Just wondering if its a good idea. I also dont wanna end up fucking my own self. Like i decide to go with vinegar and baking soda and leave over night, then a year later a pipe bursts or whatever, and i find out that oups vinegar and baking soda combimation creates some weird combo that eats away the pipes if left in for too long.

So just doing due dilligence...

Never in my life had that problem, but then I wash my dishes after using it.

Please do it before it gets worse, I'm supposed to be big man and they weren't even tears of sadness I had going on..

(I didn't even get the job done my dad had to finish cleaning the drains, also in tears)

Brruuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh

Those ones are really easy to mess with. Trust me. You just need to put something under while taking them down, because water will pour from what's inside. Take everything apart and clean with hot water only, and nothing else. If needed, use a tooth brush.

Our building has a septic tank, i think. Anyway it got clogged recently. On the tennants meeting, the guy we all pay to look after the building said when the guys came to unclog they found wet wipes and diapers down there, among other things.

Fucking peasants i have to live close to. Inconsiderate douchebags. I should sell my apartment and buy a house away from civilization, wont have no problems in life :p

Ok thats solid. The ones i have (kitchen and bathroom sinks) are those flexible ones, you know. Still, id rather not fuck with these on that level.

i just wanna clean on the inside and inside deeper, and thats all :)

Welcome to apartment life .. Idiots thinking they can flush down whatever they want .. Toilet paper is the only thing you flush, nothing else.
