Do you build links just like you do for a website??

Hello, first time getting into YT. I've been doing SEO for over 7 years now and was wondering if doing SEO is the same as for a YT channel? Would I build links on blog post, sites, etc to rank my own video in YT search?

Sorry for the question I haven't really seen anything recent about ranking videos here, mostly old threads.

Links will help you to rank in google. Ranking in youtube is completly different than google.

So.. building links pretty much is useless for YT? Does that mean I should worry about likes and retenion views? So if I pretty much rank for the kw say "baking cookies" i can't just make links for that KW and point it to the video?

Ranking in youttube is all about "retention views+watched time", longer videos always rank better. if you are going to build links just make sure that google rank this kind of videos, because not all kind of videos rank in google.
