Wikipedia is good for traffic, but not so good for Seo I don't think because it's no follow. Only benefit I see in that respect is diversity.

If your site is a proper authority site then it can add a little bit more credibility, but alas like a couple of other big sites the do follow are now no follow for new links.

Just noticed one of my competitors picked up an expired domain where a wiki article linked to one of the old pages (now non existent). I have emailed wikipedia to ask them to take it off (the link shouldn't apply). It's no doubt his strongest nofollow link, I will see if this has any effects

Any chance you can link me to any evidence of a wikipedia link helping a website rank higher?
Google have stated multiple times wikipedia links do not offer a benefit to SEO, I also worked out a way to get some for a site easily a few years back and the site did not climb at all.
@OP - As I said, Google have confirmed multiple times wikipedia links do not offer any benefit to SEO as they are no follow.
They probably don't, but the last thing you should do is trust anything Google tells you. You know what would be a good experiment, someone must have done it before. But create a site and send only no-follow links to it. See if it moves in the slightest.

I did an indexing test with no follow links here. You can't see the difference as well as you used to be able to as the do follow version of the method doesnt work as well now.
A few years back the do follow version would pull 80% indexed with the no follow test getting nowhere near.

Don't get wound up in the whole "nofollow" nonsense. Too many people caught up in Google circa-2010 algorithm. Think citation and brand value, not just link value. They are all ranking signals (amongst many other factors).

Thanks so much for all those who responded. So regardless of seo benefits or not, there may be some possibility to get some traffic since Wikipedia is a high traffic site, I will definitely go for it. I just used wikigrabber as Keywordspot suggested, and there are plenty of pages that have dead links and those that need citation.
