Hello everyone, I want to know everyone's thoughts on this topic. I don't know where to put this so I put this in Lounge.

Recently I saw a video on how companies like facebook, instagram etc. are hiring attention engineers to make people addicted to social networks. On top of that, apps like TikTok & games like PUBG are making people addicted to mobile phones

A kid in my area died playing PUBG. He was playing it for nearly 16-18 hours straight and then he want to coma in early morning (12-1AM) & when his parents hospitalized him, doctors declared him dead at 3AM

Entire generations are wasting their times on these types of apps which really disturbs me. I know its their choice in the end but if their parents don't guide them & these corporate companies exploit them like this, then how can we be sure that in future they will be able to build a better world

My question is, if given a chance, would you stop exploiting people through such apps (running facebook/instagram ads)? I know there can be a very sustainable business model without exploiting people's emotions or insecurities (look at companies like duckduckgo). I know it will be very hard at first but most of the things are hard

I am just feeling guilty as I am part of this exploitation system. And what irritates me is top youtubers in india with 10M+ views are encouraging their subscribers to use such apps. Kids have started stealing their parents' money to buy things to show off on insta & tiktok.

Will you take the necessary steps to build a better future for people & yourself without exploiting other people? I have made a pledge to not indulge in any addictive apps tiktok, facebook, insta. From now on, I will just focus on building services that actually help people to make their lives better & saves their valuable time so they can spend it on important things like their families.

I know everyone won't agree with me on this forum but I thought i would just let you know

It's all business... there is pubg...there are hundred or anti-pubg apps, too.

It's everyone's own responsibility to manage their time. Many people made career out of this, too.

You can't really do anything about this. Its been like this since the digital revolution played in. Businesses have to build apps which will engage their users to stay longer on the platform and make them addicted so they spend money on it and spend time and the more time you spend there then more people will start to notice the app. People should know themselves what they are getting into. You can either use that thing to build a following or you can just be the surfer on these platforms which most people tend to do and get nothing but lose time and money.
