Do twitter accounts expire if you dont use them? Im after some guys twitter name, and he hasn't used it since December. Just wondering, do twitter accounts expire if you dont use them/login for x months?
This is all I could find out. Apparently Twitter has talked about recycling dormant usernames, but as I'm waiting on one to expire that had 8 tweets in '09, and it's still active (and my COMPANY name!)...hasn't happened yet. Shoot, nevermind, too early for me to post URLs. Google 'Mashable Twitter User Land Grab.' Sorry, I know this is an older post, but as it popped up on page 1 of Google for the issue, I figured I'd update with a bit of information.
This is also an old post, but apparently there IS a process to get usernames that lay dormant. Google 'thenextweb how-to-snap-up-that-twitter-username-youve-always-wanted' Just FYI. Going to try and will report back if anyone is interested. EDIT: Well, I'm going to still try, and try the TOS information people posted in comments, but it looks like that the above method is no longer working. It worked for a while and then Twitter got swamped and started denying it with a canned response, according to the comments on the above page.
I don't think so, if it's not a new thing they introduced recently. Never had one that expired honestly even if I didn't use it for months.
It sucks, they really need a process in place, the squatting/inactivity is just...pointless. From your avatar and location, and me being a combat vet - hope you're safe and doing well!
According to Twitter's support page, accounts may be deleted after a period of "prolonged inactivity." It was stated that if the account was not used for 9months then it would be declared inactive. But the account wont expire but it would simply be cancelled.
