Let's say I have a business selling cars and buy the domain "California-cars.com", will this domain be to any help when it comes to SEO and ranking? Or have Google removed it altogether?

Well having the domain matching your ranking keyword is a plus but don't expect too much, its not a big deal nowdays really

Definitely exact matching keyword helps to drive traffic and also go well in SEO. Try building only quality backlinks to get ranking.

You would need to be careful with anchor texts of your links tho.

Why do you assume Google would remove it?
