Hey, BHW Members,

Like the title states "Do Thanks Effect Your Reputation On BHW"? I do not mean by the "Rep" score of any given user, but the quality of a given user? I searched for similar posts around here and didn't find an answer to my query.

Does thanking to many people make you look like a noob? IE You posted 23 posts and thanked 154 times etc...

Personally, I believe your thanks shouldn't be 3x your # of posts, after that yes, you seem to look like a noob or some kind of leech that is just waiting to be spoon fed.

What does the BHW community think about this???

I just think that the number of thanks indicates a person that isn't afraid to thank ppl for posting good info - but that's just my .02 worth. If I see someone post good info, I often will thank the post and add rep. :D

PS. One thing I do sometimes notice is when a member has thanked almost no one. I think more negatively towards that - because that person has not taken any time to thank anyone despite many posts of their own...

Thanks whoring does affect your perceived or subjective reputation here negatively. But I doubt anyone would notice how many times you have thanked people compared to how many times people have thanked you.

It is just a system in my opinion.

If you find a thread or post helpful it is much easier to press the thanks button than reply thanks in a thread which takes up space and makes things look messy. That being said the amount of threads I see with members posting thanks is a lot lol.

In general, if the post helped you press the thanks button, don't be afraid to use it!

I think that you should put less effort thinking about stuff like this and more about making money. If something screams newbie, it's threads like these. :)

LOL mate, I do make $$$ at IM.

This is just a curiosity of mine that has not been satisfied :p

Okay mate, but if we were to talk about the impression people are getting from others on the forum, not about what we're actually making :)

I think thats kind of your :) Nice to thank when you see things that help you or other good posts. More newbie to just leech! Something i really hate 0.0 when someone help click atlast at that thanks button

I think everything you do on Black Hat World affects your reputation
in some way or another, and I don't mean the reputation points.

It is the same way in the offline world. Over time, if you are a helpful
and sincere person, people will notice that and respect you. The same
applies to the negative side. If you have a mean, nasty, disrespectful
attitude, people will notice that too.

A good reputation goes a long way in the best sense, and a bad reputation
goes even further, but in the worst sense.

The choice is yours . . .

Cheers! - "Wiz"

May be we should have a " mate " button :p

Well, given the ratio of male to female members here on BHW, I don't think there should be a "mate" button anywhere on here.

Unless, that's your thing of course..

But either which way (and I'm sure a few others will agree), I'm content with just a "Thanks", no need to "mate" me.

Dont believe them. Its all lies. You just have to know the admin. If you pay $5000 you can buy an exec account with 10,000 thanks, 3000 rep and 4000 posts. They are just numbers in a database.

I think once a year there is a webinar hosted by meathead where you can get the membership at 30% discount, but to get invited into that webinar you need to be a contributing member to MAD's Dungeon, which is like an "A" list of web marketers that dont really see the light of day much. Due the the fact that they are in a Dungeon.

thanks and rep add inches to the imaginary cock we all swing

Personally, actions speak louder than rep and thanks on a forum. I judge people by their actions, not what others think of them. I've seen plenty of people with amazing rep and thanks counts get banned for dispicable acts over the years. (not just on this forum, but others as well)

I think you need to learn about growing as an individual and help others, and spend zero time worried about what others think about you, or how you appear to others. A reputation is more than a score in vbulletin.

Proverbs^^ Very wise words that should be applied not just on the forum but life in general.

Is it possible for a BHW member to give 15 negative reputation points at one glance for another member.
