Hi,

As you know wordpress has a function to add tags at the end of the posts.

Do these tags have an effect over SERP? If we enter our keyword as a tag, will it have a positive effect?

Thanks

I don't think it will have much effect - other than the fact that it acts as a few more mentions of your keyword(s).

I guess it won't do any harm either - in fact it should add value for your readers as the tags can be used to browse related articles.

Be careful you don't end up stuffing your article with keywords though as it could result in over optimiztion.

Thanks for the reply.

I assume that adding the main keyword to the tag of a post increases the serp a little bit. Or maybe i can be wrong...

Anyone has examined such effect?

Not of much effect in SERP nowadays. Used to be effective when meta keywords were important in the past and many SEO plugins used to convert those tags to meta keywords. But of any major importance nowadays except for a couple of mentions.

nop...not even keyword density on articles effect SERP result these days!

If you can find a creative way to use them they might still have some effectiveness. If they didn't they would have been done away with completely.

I have a lot of keywords that we are ranking for and it is bringing up all the pages associated with that tag. It just depends on you strategy and how impacted the KW is. For the low hanging fruit its a good idea, but at the end of the day it can't hurt.

LINKS >>>>>>>>website optimization
And you are talking about 0,001% of a website optimization...

I'm sure it will have some effect but how much of an effect and whether it is worth filling in more than a few of your more obvious keywords is debatable.

Personally I will add a few for every post I make but that is more for hedging my bets than anything else. The algorithm is constantly changing so even if it has no effect today it could have some, or more, effect later on down the line.

In my experience, a few years ago, tags were awesome, and you could rank for all kinds of crap by overloading your tags. Then tags could work if limited and relevant. Now, oddly, it seems to me that tags often do more harm than good unless you noindex the tag page itself. Google seems to get confused by the tags (and the categories) unless you get them exactly right, pay close attention to your anchor text, etc. It's frustrating.

Yoast has some decent basics on it: https://yoast.com/category-seo/

No, I don't see it effect on SERP.

Basically you can use tags to help your visitors to find related content and make your site more user-friendly. But for google it can be harmful and that's why it's recommended to noindex them. You can use yoast plugin to do this job.

Adding tag to your post was a favorite passtime which had helped in SERP but not anymore IMO however you may add them relevant to your post/topic content which may help webusers.

They used to have an effect back in 2003...now 0...nothing...nada...if you ask me, of course :)

I noindex my tags on Wordpress. I think they are very useful for users and site search. Also, having them on page can increase your keyword density for that specific post.

I think there is some benefit to implementing tags, but I don't think the /tag pages and interlinking to/from them have much SEO benefit (unless you somehow structure them for a different use in your sitemap).

back when I used them they created more urls for the same page. i found that annoying.
